Chair and Microphone, Vol. 1 : CD

This is the singer/songwriter genre in its most vulnerable form: one instrument and one voice. Here Ben Pasley, as a solo artist, bleeds out his heart in compliment and complaint, anthem and argument. It is both polite and brutal in its honesty.

He moves from the emotional content of the heart of the Psalmist to convey songs that work as personal devotionals, personal prayers. Some special attention is given to prayers for the lonely and broken-hearted:

I am so tired like a dead man
Left to wonder where his friends have gone
I am so tired like a dead man
Left to wonder where his friends have gone

Where have my friends gone
I wish God could take this thing away

The thing He surely brought my way
But I know this blanket covers me dark
And I know it's better this way
Song: Dead Man, Writer: Ben Pasley

This lament flows right out of David’s Psalm of the lonely heart:

I am as good as dead, like a strong man with no strength left.
They have left me among the dead, and I lie like a corpse in a grave.
I am forgotten, cut off from your care …
You have driven my friends away by making me repulsive to them.
I am in a trap with no way of escape …
Can those in the grave declare your unfailing love?
Can they proclaim your faithfulness in the place of destruction?
… You have taken away my companions and loved ones.
Darkness is my closest friend.
Psalm: Excerpted from 88:4-18, Writer: Heman the Ezrahite
(Tyndale House Publishers. (2013). Holy Bible: New Living Translation.)
