Chair and Microphone, Vol. 2 : MP3 Album

Aaron Strumpel’s international ministry experience has tuned his heart toward the poor and oppressed. This second in the Chair and Microphone series is, again, a raw recording of one artist and one instrument with no overdubs and no polished studio production. His unique creative gift in songwriting really shines as he shows how the heart of the Psalmist sings about New Testament pictures of Christ where he heals the outcasts and embraces the unlovely. This teaches us so much about the heart of God:

You're a dove that's been sleeping in the dirt
With a heart for the poor, and a hand for the hurt
And you cry for all your friends,
Cause you're the only one who still feels
I want to know a person like you
Who's not afraid to love the wicked and the poor
I want to know a person like you
Who's not afraid to touch the crooked and the whore
Song: Dove, Songwriter: Aaron Strumpel

This sounds a lot like Jesus standing to read his own mission statement that day in the temple in his hometown—it was time to read from Isaiah 61:

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me,
for the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted
and to proclaim that captives will be released
and prisoners will be freed.
He has sent me to tell those who mourn
that the time of the Lord’s favor has come …
(Tyndale House Publishers. (2013). Holy Bible: New Living Translation.)

This album has a lot to do with how to see pain and suffering in this world, even on a broad scale. If you need to pray through the larger issues of the day, if you struggle with injustice, or if you are unsure of God’s good heart, then this is the album for you. Put it on, close the world off, and go with us into honest conversations with God.
